Nosaj Thing – Eclipse/Blue feat. Kazu Makino

Nosaj Thing
Don’t you just love it when two of your favourite artists decide to join creative forces? Eclipse/Blue sees the tasteful electronics synonymous with Nosaj Thing, graced with the wafting vocals of Blonde Redhead front woman, Kazu Makino.

Nosaj Thing’s unswerving production chops provide the perfect sonic environment for Makino’s ever-ethereal melodies to float around. Sometimes with collabs like this, the end product can be overly ambitious, with clashing ideas that really don’t fit together; not the case with Eclipse/Blue – it’s so well balanced. Everything is complimentary, it’s as if a space was specifically carved out for Makino to fill.  There are no fights for attention; they simply guide each other along. Emphasis on the organic qualities of the track are clear, with Nosaj Thing relying more on the use (and re-use) of vocals/guitar than straight up digital avenues, employing only minimal beats/synth to give momentum and articulation.

The result is a very human tune that really gels. But is the whole greater than the sum of its parts? Hmm. It’s definitely on par with each artist’s solo endeavours; and par for the likes of such musical wizards is a pretty damn high benchmark.
