MALKA – I Never Needed Love

This ain’t MALKA’s first rodeo. With previous music appearing in films and TV shows, plus US tours and press adulation as folky front woman of (much praised) 6 Day Riot, Tamara Schlesinger has now made the transition to self-producing alt-pop princess and landed with some superb track tasters ahead of her new album Marching to Another Beat– out June.

The latest single from the album is the clapping, bouncing, just-the-right-side-of-saccharine I Never Needed Love. A slightly snarling digi-bassline underpins this otherwise impossibly upbeat tune, where oh-oh-oh chanting is buoyed by soul claps, tribal rhythms, and expansive layering to a general lyrical message of “up yours, I never needed love anyway”. Amen, lady. I Never Needed Love is bound to pull you out of whatever skulky mood you might be in.
