Montreal alt-indie kids Braids are back with a fantastic new track called Taste.

Backed by the irregular beat patterns and keys provided by her immaculately bespectacled bandmates, frontwoman Raphaelle Standell bleats a heart-tugging tale, seemingly to a lover who’s exactly what she wants, but who she had to leave. In the second verse she really opens up those vocal chords, putting the track into a gutsy territory that Braids would usually tend to avoid. It’s that same angst we heard on recent single Miniskirt (which Stereogum called “one of the most spine-chilling feminist anthems of the year”) but channeled in a different way. It’s exciting. Will the band’s upcoming third LP Deep In The Iris be full of this Braids?

Or how about the live show? I can imagine Taste being totally mesmerising. Again, I’m super stoked to see!

Braids will play at ATP Pop Up Venue (formerly Ground Floor of Total Refreshment Centre) in Dalston, London, on 1 May.
