Willow Beats – Alchemy

I feel like Willow Beats drew a big heart on my wrist in pink texta when they released From The Underground. That’s the kind of giddiness their music evokes, especially as this particular track marked my first ever published music review. That, as we say, is history but 6 months on, with the release of Alchemy the giddiness hasn’t faded.

Bias aside Alchemy is a gloriously vivacious electronic track that sounds like the musical equivalent of buckets of brightly coloured paint being haphazardly flung around a white room. It maintains Willow Beats’ unique sound; the high pitched, heavily glitchy, and, at times fully warped, sweet vocals of Kalyani Mumtaz plastered over contrasting, weighty synths. Their token collaged sound remains too, cementing it as a foundational element of their producing style as a vast spectrum of sounds; whimsical, liquid, bouncing, and robust flutter across a horizon of beats.

The perfect follow up to their initial self titled EP, Alchemy, with its ubiquitous originality exudes a refined and elegant finesse and signifies the progression of Willow Beats as innovative electronic artists.
