Josef Salvat Live at OSLO in Hackney
He’s still the same height, but Josef Salvat has certainly grown as a performer.
Last night the Aussie-born, London-based singer-song-writer-producer played to a sold-out hipster crowd at Hackney’s OSLO. And he did it with style, confidence and effortless awesomeness.
Last October at The Courtyard Theatre in London I saw him perform for the first time. He was fantastic but carried with him a kind of pseudo-ego which he wore like a jacket that didn’t quite fit. Now it’s a different story. He’s more comfortable on stage, more trusting in his fans; he’s ditched the ego which makes him all the more pleasurable to watch.
His voice was powerful enough to silence an afterwork crowd – am impressive feat in London where basic manners are treated like drug deals and not very often seen. He played his secret track Punchline again; it has some seriously booming, slow bass lines that work really well live, leaving everyone asking where the hell can we stream this track!? (seriously Josef if you’re reading this, WHERE?!)
He even did an encore. But he wouldn’t have had a choice in the matter since the crowd stayed put whooping and wooing until he came out and closed his set with his epic cover of Diamonds.
Hustle was radio 1’s track of the day on Monday….check it out below
