New Gods – Klipse
I’m the opposite of religious but I’d sign up for holy water cocktails, and repent every last one of my many, many sins if this Melbourne 5-piece are what they say they are.
New Gods have already supported Alt-J and Local Natives (!), and after hearing Klipse, it sounds like they’ll be shaping the next curve of Australian music.
They boys bring the circuit boards of Klipse, to life by fusing elements of the past and future. There’s strong ties with glitch, waves of psychedelia, and enough retro vibes to confuse your decades. You’d be forgiven for thinking Klipse is a totally electronic track as the slow beats start to roll. But then the instrumentation washes in, in a tidal wave of emotion, and you’re drenched in musical magic.
The video has been coined as an ‘intense Orwellian stoner video’. Director, Lucy McCallum says it’s ‘a tongue-in-cheek montage about the psychology of modern capitalism.’
