Shura – 2Shy
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Shura’s music evolved directly from a lifelong fascination with Logic Pro synth plugins, but it was in fact a session with Athlete frontman Joel Laslett Pott that sparked the whispery pop/RnB hopeful’s interest in electronics. Her first offering of 2015 is awash with synthetic haze – perfect for the sun’s gradual re-emergence as spring creeps up on London.
2Shy breaks love down to its most innocent parts – much like breakthrough track Touch – and the production drips with intersecting layers. Humming keys underpin muted guitars and shimmering synths. Cigarettes, conversations, walking down the Uxbridge Road with headphones on – Shura’s words evoke the mental knots of a love unexpressed.
Shura is to play a sold-out show at Village Underground on 25 March. She’s also booked for Field Day and Bestival.
