Ms Murphy – White Dress and the Spirit

Look, I know it’s not cool to like a musician who performed on the lame Australian reality/talent TV show, The Voice, and who was strongly endorsed by Ricky Martin. And I know it’s not proper to write about a soul artist on a blog that primarily revolves around electronic and indie acts.

But I don’t care.

Ms Murphy’s burning talent for singing soul, R&B and gospel is too good to ignore. It’s a shame the local acts at Soulfest — the Australian soul and hip-hop festival that premiered this year — were all cancelled for the Melbourne show because Ms Murphy was on the local lineup, along with Ngaiire, EMRSN and Miracle.

Bahhhhhhh enough talk. Have a listen to Ms Murphy’s cover of Little Dragon’s Ritual Union, and her original Nobody Else, both found on her EP, White Dress and the Spirit. It’s a solid EP, worthy of the $7.50 price tag.

Well I reckon Ms Murphy is fantastic, I thought the show was rigged when she missed out, but then her coach also really ruined it for her with what they made her sing and how she was asked to sing it. I really thought she was going to be the Karise Eden of season 2. Anyhow, I reckon she’s marvellous but I don’t like these 2 songs because they are instrument dominated performances by a performer that should not be drowned out instruments.
