Delphic – Baiya (Shadow Child Remix)

Delphic is usually on high rotation when I’m travelling, ultra pensive or traversing through introspective moments or intermediary states. With that in mind I was a little apprehensive about hearing a remix of Baiya by a producer recognised for his affinity for dance tracks.

Obviously though I needn’t have worried. Shadow Child’s remix of Baiya still oozes the deep blurriness that is quintessentially Delphic. It still evokes imagery of natural beauty; floating clouds, dusky sunsets and glistening horizons but its  been nudged out of the shoegazing, Indie in between and right onto the dance floor.

Shadow Child takes Delphic’s track, shakes it up and glosses it over with some lovely, creamy disco tones. The chirpy synths, sugary sweet vocals and euphoric violin instrumentals churn it out as a Baiya flavoured ice cream sundae. With cherries on top. The result is a much lighter version of the original, a sort of yin to Delphic’s yang.  Seems appropriate given that Shadow Child is an alias of Dave Spoon and he produces under both monikers, a split producing personality which allows him many creative liberalisms and a diverse spectrum of sounds he explores through each.
