Bonobo – Cirrus
Cirrus is the long awaited release from British producer, Bonobo who is best known for his patchwork of instrumentals interwoven with down tempo electronica.
In Cirrus, Bonobo stays true to his signature sound. The xylophone keys and wind chimes give the track a slightly foreign feel while the lopsided tinkles and twangs come to sit right by nostalgia, touching that certain spot in our mind where familiarities dance and fall. Despite Bonobo’s connection to electronica the track exudes a naturalness that reminds me of picturesque landscapes and frontiers of homeliness in the many shades of mellow. Whilst the track does delve a little deeper as it progresses it remains fairly loose and light, leaving it joyfully neutral and unburdened.
Also known as Simon Green and additionally producing under the name Barakas as part of Nirobi & Barakas, Bonobo fans have been long awaiting the follow up to his 2010 album Black Sands. Cirrus is our first insight into Northern Borders, which is due for release via Ninja Tune in April 2013.
