The Nymphs – Shake

Momentarily relinquish your “cool” persona (we all have one) and sink into the ‘a capella’ quartet The Nymphs as they send you floating slowly down the decades with their sparkling post-WWII vocal harmonies.

Carefully weaving influences from 40s jazz, 50s swing and early 60s pop, this exquisite Melbourne-based vintage act offers something fresh through something aged. The Marngrook Footy Show from Australia’s National Indigenous Television (NITV) showcased The Nymph’s song Shake live.

Hearing something as honest and wholesome as Shake is like a bucket of cold water in the face of the current, laptop-powered electronic/R&B scene, which tends to envelop unwitting listeners in a neverending, all-encompassing hunt for the latest edgy, gritty, hip, cool, new thing.

Experiencing The Nymphs live is something you definitely want to do. Catch them as they release their debut album in the coming months.

  • Melbourne, Saturday 22 February, The Kelvin Club
